Lifestyles 101: Macrobiotic.


This is the last post to the Lifestyles 101 mini series! We began with flexitarians and have come down to macrobiotics. There are other lifestyles as well, but they're a little too extreme and decided that I'd end here. ;) Macrobiotics eat the same things as raw vegans, but they exclude refined oils and sugar from their meals.

A couple of common foods to eat are sea vegetables, raw vegetables, and whole grains. This lifestyle has been said to have healing powers. Unlike fruitarians, macrobiotics consume their food in specific proportions. Rather than eating till they're full, the meal times are planned with the right amount of nutrients and calories. There are rare cases in which a macrobiotic eats fish too.

Thing to Look Out For: Healing powers or not, don't start this lifestyle immediately if you're an omnivore. Your body must prepare for the new foods that you'll be eating. Because this is a strongly disciplined lifestyle, make sure to eat enough every day and stay fit. To be safe, check with a nutritionist (not a doctor!) and find out how you can prepare to be a macrobiotic.
