YES, vegetarianism can give you more energy, strengthen your immune system, enhance your taste buds, etc! When the common cold hits town, the most our bodies can do is fight it off as best at it can. If your body is nourished and on a well balanced vegetarian lifestyle, chances are that your body will fight off the cold. However, there are times when we can't fight nature. For example, some people are sensitive to the weather changes of the seasons and catch a cold or the flu. Sometimes there are more serious illnesses that we cannot avoid.
Vegetarians can still get cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, and many other serious illnesses. There are two main reasons as to why that is. One being that it runs in their genes and is unavoidable. Another reason is poor eating and excercise habits. What good is a vegetarian lifestyle if someone smokes, drinks, does no excercise, eats lots of sugar-filled foods, or all of the above?! That's a recipe for disaster, a calling for a quicker death. At this point it doesn't matter if you don't eat any animals, the body is receiving more bad than good.
The best we can do is take care of our bodies with proper exercise and food. An always healthy life is not something that vegetarianism can garuantee (wether done correctly or not) but it's been proven that vegetarians are less likely to receive serious illnesses than omnivores AND have a higher chance of getting better than an omnivore.
