Should dog that attacked 4 year-old boy be euthanized?

A couple of days ago, the news was storming with a video of a cat saving his young owner from a dog attack in Bakersfield, CA. The mother quickly rushed into the scene to see if her son was okay. The 4 year-old boy luckily didn't receive any serious injuries. The problem now, my guppies, is that the dog (Labrador and chow mix) might be euthanized.

The 8 month-old dog belonged to a neighbor who was pulling out of the driveway when the dog got out. We don't know much about the owner or any past actions of the dog, but there is a petition going around to save this young canine. At this moment, Bakersfield Animal Control is keeping him for 10 days before putting him down. There are now four days left to save him.

Should the dog receive a second chance and be in a special shelter where problematic dogs are trained, or be put down for an error he committed? Again, we don't know any past history on how the owner treated him; but in most cases of violent dog attacks, the owner always has something to do with it.

Here's the link to the petition: http://www.yousign.org/en/bakersfield-dog

Here's the footage of the attack.

  1. I hate the fact that so many people feel like they have the right to take the animal's life away. I absolutely disagree with death penalty and I don't think that in that case this is so much different. I know the dog can be trained and situations like this one just make me sad...

    1. Same. It makes me sad when an animal has to pay for being raised by the wrong people. Just an assumption, but the owner probably wanted to make him a guard dog. That, or he didn't take the time to train him properly.

    2. A dog dosn't need to die Becaust the owner Trained it bad. it's like people! Some people were raised bad, so they just do bad things. No one has to die no matter how bad the crime is.

    3. Exactly, and people have done much crueler things than animals.

  2. No the dog should not be put down..the dogs owner however should be held responsible and should make sure their dog doesn't get out anymore...

    1. Exactly! It's a shame that this had to happen, especially with the dog being so young; not even a year old!
